Modern Baby Shark First Birthday

Baby Shark do do do do do do or actually birthday shark do do do do do do may be more fitting.

We decided this year to have a shark birthday party for our little guy’s first birthday but we wanted to avoid Pink Fong-like baby shark. That wasnt the vibe we were going for. I wanted more modern and simple.

And simple it was. The only thing that cost me was food and that’s going to cost no matter what when you throw a party.

For food we went ahead and just threw a breakfast party. I ordered donuts and enlisted grandmas to help bring items. We had more than enough!

The decorations were of course my favorite part and they were beyond easy and cheap!

For his monthly milestone pictures, I just used a chalkboard that I already had for our home. I bought some blue string from Michael’s and taped it in the back. I ordered square prints and hung them on the string with clothespins. I’m telling you….it doesn’t get easier than that!

For our large banner behind the food table, I used the same string and bought the cheap $.35 paper from Michael’s in various color blues and cut out a hand-drawn shark template and circles. Super duper easy, adds a ton to the theme and was cheap!!

For his highchair, I bought the tassel banner from Target already made. I just strung off the gold tassels. I then made my pennants from a template online and hand cut the letters & sharks. πŸ™‚ Second baby means I don’t have time for fancy crafts. πŸ˜‰

His cake was inspired from one I found on Pinterest. I just sent the picture over to a local bakery and they made it happen for only $15!! The cake topper was supposed to be from a small shop but I forgot to order so I just had a friend with a cricut work her magic. I think it could have been a tad smaller but it turned out alright!

Quick tip: always have another backup outfit for after the cake smash. I bought his “birthday shark” onesie from an Etsy shop, OliverandOliviaApp. While I liked the onesie a lot, warning that it runs a little big. My onesie was supposed to be 12-18 months but the Onesie actually said it was 18 months and was big. The shipping was quick though and it was super cute. His other outfit was soo cute and was of course Cat and Jack from Target.

His birthday hat was just the pack of party hats from Walmart. I used the same cheap paper I bought and cut out fins and a number 1. The rest of the stuff was just cheap colored table cloths from Walmart and balloons from our local party store.

I’m telling you, this was the easiest and least stressful birthday party I have planned thus far.

I loved how it all came together and hope you enjoyed a quick and easy guide to a modern shark birthday!
