Postpartum Herb Bath Aiding in Recovery!
This week I am talking all things postpartum like birth, first weeks of breastfeeding, the first postpartum poo, so I may as well talk about hemorrhoids, stitches, postpartum bleeding, and perineal swelling/pain.
With my first, I had an episiotomy as well as hemorrhoids so I decided to search for something to aid in my recovery. That was the worst part of my recovery the first time around so I decided that it was important to find something to hopefully help me the next go around. I came across Birth Song Botanicals and reached out to them to see if I could try out their herbal bath. They said yes and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome!!
I originally had envisioned a nice herbal bath (like a real bath) with candles and wine. Well, that didn’t happen but I will say it was still relaxing! Since I had an episiotomy, I am not allowed to fully be submerged in a bath tub (bummer!!) but I AM allowed to take a sitz bath! Yay!
I may not have been able to take a real bath but you can bet I lit some candles and had a glass of wine during my 20 minutes of peace (aka nap time). It was wonderful! I have a lot of hemorrhoids unfortunately. Some are probably still leftover from my first pregnancy 🙁 and after pushing hard for only 7 minutes(also the reason I ended up with another episiotomy), I managed to acquire some new ones. The joys of pregnancy, labor, and delivery. 😉
The herbal bath is easy to make but I warn you it does take a little bit of time. Don’t start nap time and think you are going to hop in and take your bath in 10 minutes. You need to wait for a pot of water to boil as well as wait at least 15-20 minutes for the herbal bath mixture to steep. It isn’t terrible but it is something to plan ahead for! 🙂
I was able to create 4 sitz baths out of mine. I filled my sitz bath halfway with warm water and poured some of the mixture in. Sat down, drank some wine and relaxed as the mixture promoted healing!
I was actually taking my bath primarily due to itchiness and pain from my hemorrhoids. The relief was instant and very welcomed! After having a baby, I will take all the relief I can get during my postpartum journey. <3
My first postpartum recovery was terrible. Part of it was that I didn’t know what to expect. Part of it was that I didn’t have the things I needed. This is one of those things I HIGHLY recommend you buy before baby gets here. If I had known this last time, my postpartum recovery would have been significantly different.
It is perfect for you AND baby. My only wish was that I could take a real bath like I had envisioned but I am satisfied with the tremendous relief it provided me with during my postpartum journey.
This sounds amazing! I will add this to my list of things to get for my postpartum care. I usually do fairly good after birth but there’s nothing better than having a little self care time.
I wonder if I could use this for my husband for the hemorrhoid relief. He would appreciate something that actually helps.
