What’s in my Hospital Bag (Second Time Around) + Printable Checklist
So, I am an over packer by nature. I like to take plenty of clothes “just in case” and have NEVER used every single item I have packed on any trip. My hospital bag is much more downsized the second time around as I know what I actually will need as opposed to the last time. I have spent more time actually preparing what I will need to stock up on for the recovery and at home vs. my hospital bag.
Keep in mind, since I am a second time momma, I also have to pack an emergency bag for my toddler for whomever will be watching her. I have tested positive for Group B strep. No biggie, but it means I have to stay an extra two days in the hospital for monitoring so that is what each of our bags is based on. π
Momma’s Bag π
Clothes: 2 pairs of pants, 2 shirts, 2 nursing tanks, 2 nursing bras, 1 sleep bra, a jacket, 2 pairs of socks, undies if you choose, and headbands. Make sure they are items that fit around 6 months of pregnancy. I didn’t even bother with undies because mesh undies are life πΒ and provided for you at the hospital π
Toiletries: Hairbrush, hair spray, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brush, toothpaste, perfume, deodorant, ponytails, makeup, nursing pads, and nipple cream.
I personally love my PinkBlush Maternity leggings so I am bringing those and another pair of maternity capris, my “Boy and Girl Mama” shirt for photos, nursing tanks from Savi Mom and Target, my “Mama Life” jacket from River Babe Threads, and nursing bras from Motherhood Maternity and Bamboobies.
Baby’s Bag:
Clothes: 2 onesies/outfits, 2-3 sleepers/gowns, 2 swaddles, going home outfit, mittens, socks, hats, blanket, Covered Goods car seat/nursing cover, and Cuddle and Kind bear.
Keepsake: Memory book for footprints and however you plan to announce. I am using a sticker from FirstHello on Etsy that says, “Hello, my name is…” to snap some photos of and share.
Other: Boppy pillow for nursing, breast pump if you want, Big Sister’s outfit. I threw in an outfit for her for photos in case she came up covered in strawberries ππCloth diapers if you want. Other than that, the hospital supplies you with diapers, wipes, cream and anything else you may need. π
Bag for Big Sibling
Clothes: I basically just packed a diaper bag for 3 full days and 2 nights: 3 outfits, socks, shoes, and 3 pairs of pajamas.
Toiletries: Β Plenty of diapers, wipes, diaper cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, bath soap, pacifiers, ponytails, and a hair bow.
Other: It’s summer here and I don’t want her missing out on any fun if her cousins choose to go swimming so I packed her swimsuit, sunglasses, sunscreen, and some of our favorite B.B. Littles swim diapers. π It may be good to also pack any item they need to be comfortable for sleeping. If they have a special lovey, blanket, or absolutely depend on their sound machine, have that easy to find and make sure whoever is watching them knows. π It will make it easier on them and your kiddo.
And that’s it… π a second time mama’s guide to packing a hospital bag for you, baby, and bag for your toddler. Daddy’s on his own. π
